With winter still holding strong and frost covering the greens, the golf season in Sweden—and many other places—remains on pause. But for us golfers, the game never really stops—it just shifts gears. Sitting here in the office, staring at my clubs (which haven’t seen daylight in months), I know the struggle is real. Keeping the golf spirit alive through the winter is a challenge, but it’s also a chance to reconnect with what we love about the game. Here’s how we’re staying inspired and keeping the spirit alive, even when the fairways are out of reach.
Staying sharp starts with a simple setup. Whether it’s rolling putts on a mat in your living room or heading to an indoor facility for full swings, practicing indoors keeps the muscle memory alive. Try setting up a putting competition at home with friends or family using a small indoor putting mat. If you have access to a golf simulator, play a virtual round at St. Andrews or Pebble Beach—it’s not quite the real thing, but it’s close enough to keep your swing in tune and your inspiration alive.
Winter is the perfect time to dig into golf’s endless pool of inspiration online. From YouTube tutorials to highlights of iconic rounds, there’s always something new to learn—or relive. Need some ideas? Start with Tiger Woods’ legendary comeback win at the 2019 Masters or Ludvig Åberg’s record-breaking victory at the 2023 RSM Classic. Watching the pros pull off impossible shots and nail it under pressure is like witnessing golf magic—it’s inspiring and makes you wonder, ‘How do they even do that?’
Why not take a scroll through your camera roll to rediscover the stories and moments that defined your season? Maybe it’s that clutch birdie during your summer round, the stunning views, or the time you and your friends braved a sudden downpour to finish 18 holes. Even if those exact moments aren’t there, there’s always something in your camera roll worth revisiting. Quick tip: just search 'Golf,' and all those memories will pop up.
While much of the golf world happens online these days, there will always be a place for what’s written on paper. The off-season is a great time to crack open a golf book you’ve been meaning to read. We recommend Golf is Not a Game of Perfect by Dr. Bob Rotella for mental game insights, The Match by Mark Frost to dive into one of the most epic games in history, or A Course Called America by Tom Coyne to explore golf through storytelling. There's something about classic stories that you just won’t find online.
Winter may keep us off the course, but it’s the perfect time to start dreaming. Research new courses, book a golf buddies trip, or make a list of goals for the next season. Is there a place that you've always wanted to play? Maybe 2025 is the year to make it happen?
Winter is also about preparation. Take the time to clean and organize your gear—polish your shoes, wash your polos, and make sure your clubs are ready for next season. Try regripping your clubs to start the year fresh or reorganizing your golf wardrobe so you’re ready for any weather. And don’t forget to check your golf balls—do you have enough for next season, or is it time to restock?
